Crowdsensing-based Infrastructure Condition Monitoring

SUMMARY

The civil infrastructure systems in developed countries are deteriorating. Traditional methods such as frequent site inspections and installing fixed sensors can be costly and inefficient.

This project introduces a novel framework to identify potential issues with infrastructure by leveraging the sensors equipped on smartphones owned by the general public.

With public participation, we can monitor a large number of infrastructure elements such as roads, bridges, and buildings in almost real-time and at a very low cost.
